StorEdge™ Solution with Backup [Batteries Sold Seperatly]

SolarEdge’s StorEdge DC coupled storage solution automatically provides homeowners with backup power in case of grid interruption, and allows home owners to maximize self-consumption for maximum energy independence. Unused solar power is stored in a battery and used during a power outage or when solar production is insufficient. When there is a power outage, a combination of solar and battery is used to power important loads such as the refrigerator, TV, lights and AC outlets, day or night. The solution is based on a single inverter for solar, storage and backup power.

The High Power SolarEdge StorEdge inverter will support Tesla's Powerwall 2 and LG's RESU10H* batteries, as well as two Tesla Powerwall 1 (type E) or Powerwall 2 batteries for high power. The new batteries will only be compatible with SolarEdge’s High Power SE7600A-USS2 StorEdge inverter and not with earlier versions of the StorEdge inverter. pre-engineered

*The current high voltage RESU batteries sold by LG Chem are not compatible with SolarEdge; LG Chem will sell a different variation that will be compatible with SolarEdge.

A free inverter firmware upgrade is required to support the high power batteries and configurations. Information about the firmware version can be found in the product release notes and will be available, along with the firmware upgrade file, in the StorEdge Firmware Upgrade page.

In a SolarEdge system, a power optimizer (Powerbox) is mounted behind and connected to each panel. At least 8 panels power optimizer must be used, so your system can start as small at 8 panels with wattages up to 350 watts each. The output of the power optimizer is wired in series “strings” just like a typical grid connected system, but strings can be made of 8 to 25 panels and several strings of different numbers of panels may be connected to the same SolarEdge inverter. This allows the homeowner to put as many solar panels on a roof that can fit in allowable space. Panels can be partially shaded and can even be on different planes of the roof. When the panels with power optimizer are installed, the homeowner can safely handle the wiring because there is only one volt output per panel until they are connected to the inverter and the inverter is turned on. The installer will know if the wiring is correct by counting the panels and making sure there is one volt per panel in each string. This allows for the quantity in series and the polarity to be easily verified.

Canadian Solar panels all-black CS6K-M modules are equipped with dark mono-crystalline cells, dark colored back sheet and a black frame to enhance the aesthetic appearance over standard mono modules. This product can improve the aesthetics of a rooftop bringing customer values of more energy production. Excellent module efficiency up to 16.5%, Outstanding low irradiance performance, 96.5% and Heavy snow load up to 5400 Pa wind load up to 2400 Pa. Best warranty insurance, 25 year worldwide 100% warranty term coverage providing third party bankruptcy rights non-cancellable by 3 top insurance companies.

Additional Hardware That May Be Required

dcBlue Pacific Solar has provided all of the main parts you will need for your kit. (See "What's On The Truck") Roof racks and roof rack attachment options or a ground rack system are site specific options that are not included with the base package. Additionally some additional items sourced from your local hardware store that your may need to purchase are: Conduit, appropriately sized electrical wire from the array, some fasteners, sealant, grounding rod, junction box at the edge of the array where you will make the transition to conduit, an AC combiner box if you have more than one string and a AC disconnect within 10' of the main panel which may be required in some local jurisdictions.

SolarEdge Product Warranty Program

SolarEdge includes a 25 year warranty for power optimizers and a standard 12 year warranty for inverters, extendable to 20 or 25 years. SolarEdge manages a rapid RMA (Return Material Authorization) process and guarantee a replacement unit shipped within 48 hours at no cost, given the reported defect is eligible for coverage under the Limited Product Warranty.

The warranty extension is available with a one-time payment fee and must be activated within 16 months of inverter shipment. Should you choose to purchase the extended warranty, you would contact SolarEdge directly as the warranty is between you the consumer and SolarEdge.

Please see the fees below for warranty extension cost:

SolarEdge / Microinverter Comparison

Power Optimizers

Cost per Watt

Lower - 20-50% cheaper

  • Microinverters cost includes trunk cables and gateways

  • SolarEdge system cost includes inverter, built-in module-level monitoring and 25 year warranty for inverters and power optimizers

Not scalable

  • The cost/watt of a SolarEdge system decreases as installation
    size increases

Added Energy

  • Power optimizers have higher efficiency (99.5%) than Microinverters
  • Reduced efficiency of Microinverters increases heat dissipation
    which enhances module degradation
  • Microinverters have a higher minimum voltage than power
    • Less shading tolerance
    • Late wake up leading to fewer production hour

  • Microinverters have a limited AC output power (e.g. no support for 72-cell modules)
  • When connected to higher capacity modules, the excess DC power is
lost. E.g. in a 6kW installation of 260W modules, only 5kW AC power
    will be produced

  • Microinverters have much higher part count leading to increased
    failure rate
  • Some Microinverters work with electrolytic capacitors which have
    short life time
  • Microinverters create higher temperatures

NOTE, IMPORTANT INSTALLATION: It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that all products are installed and operated in accordance with local and national building codes as specific by the NEC (National Electric Code), UBC (Uniform Building Code) or IBC (International Building Code) and local utility company policy. These codes may vary from city to city and county to county. All Grid-tied solar installations should be permitted and inspected, where required, by the local inspection authority in the same manner as other equivalent electrical systems. Blue Pacific Solar recommends you contract with a local licensed electrician to do the final electrical connection of your solar system from the AC disconnect to your home utility breaker box. Some local permitting authorities require that a licensed electrician do all the wiring from the rack to the utility interconnect for your SolarEdge 16800W Solar Kit. If you need help with the permitting documents for your kit, we are here for you. Solar permit service add on is available at checkout.

Additional Safety Instructions; Perform all electrical installations in accordance with all applicable local electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Be aware that only qualified personnel should install or replace SolarEdge optimizer. Do not attempt to repair the SolarEdge optimizer; it contains no user-serviceable parts. If it fails, please contact SolarEdge customer service to obtain an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number and start the replacement process. Tampering with or opening the optimizer will void the warranty. Before installing or using the optimizer or inverter, please read all instructions and cautionary markings in the technical description and on the solar equipment. Connect the SolarEdge kit to the utility grid only after receiving prior approval from the electrical utility company. Be aware that the body of the optimizer is the heat sink. Under normal operating conditions, the temperature is 15°C above ambient, but under extreme conditions the optimizer can reach a temperature of 80°C. To reduce risk of burns, use caution when working with optimizer. Do NOT disconnect the solar module from the SolarEdge optimizer without first removing AC power.

This SolarEdge 10.1 kWh Canadian Mono Panel Kit is an affordable expandable do-it-yourself (DIY) StorEdge™ Solution with Backup for your home or businesses energy independence.
