The SolarEdge grid-tied system combines panel-level power optimizers and monitoring with a specialized DC-AC string inverter to maximize the energy yield of a solar installation with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) on each panel that mitigates partial string shading, panel mismatch, uneven soiling and aging variance losses. The system is designed to automatically maintain a fixed string voltage to ensure that the inverter always operates as efficiently as possible, regardless of string size, shading, or temperature. This allows flexible string length ranging from 8 to 25 panels and mitigates the performance impact of varying panel sizes, tilts or orientations. The installation is scalable and facilitates expansion or replacements because future modules do not need to match existing ones. pre-engineered Installing a SolarEdge system can reduce installation time and cost by decreasing the number of strings, DC disconnects and other balance of system parts.

SolarEdge Technologies provides electronics to that act similar to micro inverters at a panel level but uses a central inverter to maximize energy harvesting. SolarEdge 17700W Solar Kit is unique in that it uses a system in which each solar panel is connected to a power optimizer which guarantees maximum power to be drawn from each panel throughout the day then feeds the energy that it generates through a central inverter on the wall to the utility grid. The SolarEdge solution provides some unique benefits with their system, such as increased energy product per panel, improved safety for the DIY installer, and panel level performance monitoring. The power optimizers are designed to function continuously for over 25 years without maintenance in outdoor conditions with extremely low failure rates. The SolarEdge inverter is designed, and warranted, for 12 years of operation with options to extend the inverter warranty to 25 years.

The SolarEdge DC-AC PV inverter is specifically designed to work with the SolarEdge power optimizers. Because MPPT and voltage management are handled separately for each module by the power optimizer, the inverter is only responsible for DC to AC inversion. Consequently, it is a less complicated, more cost effective, more reliable solar inverter with a standard 12 year warranty, extendable to 20 or 25 years. The fixed string voltage ensures operation at the highest efficiency at all times (97% weighted efficiency) independent of string length and temperature. Different brands and wattage panels can be used in the same string, making it easy to add to an existing system later or to replace a failed or broken panel. When the panels with power optimizer are installed, the homeowner can safely handle the wiring because there is only one volt output per panel until they are connected to the inverter and the inverter is turned on. The installer will know if the wiring is correct by counting the panels and making sure there is one volt per panel in each string. This allows for the quantity in series and the polarity to be easily verified.

Canadian Solar‘s new SuperPower modules with Mono-PERC cells significantly improve efficiency and reliability. The innovative technology offers superior low irradiance performance in the morning, in the evening and on cloudy days, increasing the energy output of the module and the overall yield of the solar system. Excellent module efficiency up to 18.02%. Best warranty insurance, 25 year worldwide 100% warranty term coverage providing third party bankruptcy rights non-cancellable by 3 top insurance companies.

SolarEdge / Microinverter Comparison

Power Optimizers

Cost per Watt

Lower - 20-50% cheaper

  • Microinverters cost includes trunk cables and gateways

  • SolarEdge system cost includes inverter, built-in module-level monitoring and 25 year warranty for inverters and power optimizers

Not scalable

  • The cost/watt of a SolarEdge system decreases as installation
    size increases

Added Energy

  • Power optimizers have higher efficiency (99.5%) than Microinverters
  • Reduced efficiency of Microinverters increases heat dissipation
    which enhances module degradation
  • Microinverters have a higher minimum voltage than power
    • Less shading tolerance
    • Late wake up leading to fewer production hour

  • Microinverters have a limited AC output power (e.g. no support for 72-cell modules)
  • When connected to higher capacity modules, the excess DC power is
lost. E.g. in a 6kW installation of 260W modules, only 5kW AC power
    will be produced

  • Microinverters have much higher part count leading to increased
    failure rate
  • Some Microinverters work with electrolytic capacitors which have
    short life time
  • Microinverters create higher temperatures

SolarEdge Canadian Solar Mono 17700W Grid Tie Kit Do-It-Yourself Home or Business Package

The SolarEdge Canadian Solar Mono 17700W Kit inverters sync with the grid at 240 VAC, and because the MPPT and voltage management is handled by the power optimizer, Pre-assembled AC/DC Safety Switch for faster installation, weigh about 52 pounds, and are 98% efficient. The system also offers optional wireless inverter connectivity for simpler installation, free of Ethernet or RS485 cabling. ETL Listed to UL 1742 for the US and Canada. SolarEdge has a 25-year warranty for the power optimizer and 12-year warranty for the inverter, extendable to 25 years. Current residential solar systems are typically built from ten to 50 solar panels connected in a series-parallel connection. Several panels (typically 10 to 20) are connected in series, forming a string, to achieve a voltage high enough to enable efficient DC/AC inversion usually between 150V to 600V. More power can be added to the system by adding multiple strings in parallel.

The SolarEdge solar inverter combines sophisticated digital control technology with efficient power conversion architecture to achieve superior solar power harvesting and best-in-class reliability. A proprietary data monitoring receiver has been integrated into the single phase solar inverter and aggregates the power optimizer performance data from each solar panel. This data can be transmitted to the web and accessed via the SolarEdge monitoring portal for performance analysis, fault detection and troubleshooting of PV systems.

NOTE, IMPORTANT INSTALLATION: It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that all products are installed and operated in accordance with local and national building codes as specific by the NEC (National Electric Code), UBC (Uniform Building Code) or IBC (International Building Code) and local utility company policy. These codes may vary from city to city and county to county. All Grid-tied solar installations should be permitted and inspected, where required, by the local inspection authority in the same manner as other equivalent electrical systems. Blue Pacific Solar recommends you contract with a local licensed electrician to do the final electrical connection of your solar system from the AC disconnect to your home utility breaker box. Some local permitting authorities require that a licensed electrician do all the wiring from the rack to the utility interconnect for your SolarEdge 17700W Solar Kit. If you need help with the permitting documents for your kit, we are here for you. Solar permit service add on is available at checkout.

Additional Safety Instructions; Perform all electrical installations in accordance with all applicable local electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Be aware that only qualified personnel should install or replace SolarEdge optimizer. Do not attempt to repair the SolarEdge optimizer; it contains no user-serviceable parts. If it fails, please contact SolarEdge customer service to obtain an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number and start the replacement process. Tampering with or opening the optimizer will void the warranty. Before installing or using the optimizer or inverter, please read all instructions and cautionary markings in the technical description and on the solar equipment. Connect the SolarEdge kit to the utility grid only after receiving prior approval from the electrical utility company. Be aware that the body of the optimizer is the heat sink. Under normal operating conditions, the temperature is 15°C above ambient, but under extreme conditions the optimizer can reach a temperature of 80°C. To reduce risk of burns, use caution when working with optimizer. Do NOT disconnect the solar module from the SolarEdge optimizer without first removing AC power.

This SolarEdge Canadian Solar Mono 17700W Kit is an affordable expandable do-it-yourself (DIY) high quality solution for your home or businesses energy independence.
