Blue Pacific Solar® Commercial Solutions

SolarEdge's power optimizers and three-phase inverters are specifically designed to help commercial project owners maximize system yields. By performing maximum power point tracking at the module level, SolarEdge power optimizers condition the power from each solar panel to eliminate losses from mismatches and improve energy harvest.

Basic Commercial Solar System Operation, SolarEdge Optimized Inverters

The SolarEdge system differs from traditional solar systems in that the SolarEdge system operates as an ungrounded array with a constant dc input voltage regardless of the number of power optimizers wired in series. Since the inverter regulates the inverter input voltage and current, string lengths between 8 and 50 power optimizers are possible (depending on system hardware and configuration).

The SolarEdge system has been designed to allow the inverter to operate at full power with a maximum of two strings of power optimizers in most configurations. The SolarEdge inverter does not allow reverse current flow from the grid back to the power optimizers during fault conditions. As a result no overcurrent devices are needed between the inverter and the power optimizers if the solar system is configured with one or two strings of power optimizers.

Power Optimizers

The SolarEdge power optimizers utilize a very high efficiency single-stage dc-to-dc converter controlled by custom application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) devices. The power optimizer is typically located immediately adjacent to, or attached directly to, the solar module. In addition to Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and dc-to-dc conversion the power optimizers provide module level monitoring and a number of safety related functions. MPPT of the module is achieved via a fully independent control loop operating between each module and its power optimizer. The dc-to-dc converter in the power optimizer allows the solar module voltage and current at the converter input to be completely decoupled from (i.e. unrelated to) the converter output voltage and current. This is a key distinction between a SolarEdge system and traditional solar systems.

Optimizer – Inverter Allowed Distance

Each power optimizer is equipped with the unique SafeDC™ feature which automatically shuts down modules' DC voltage whenever the inverter or grid power is shut down. These pre-engineered commercial packages include the SolarEdge, Optimizer 700W, Add-On Box for two 72 cell modules, 12-105V, 10A, MC4-Compatible In, MC4-Compatible Out, 71" solar wire, 1000VDC, (For use only with 3-Ph 9kW to 33.3kW Inverters)

The total cable length of the string from the extended power three phase inverter to the farthest power optimizer is 1,150ft (2,300ft from DC+ to DC- of the inverter).

Additional Hardware That May Be Required

dcBlue Pacific Solar has provided all of the main parts you will need for your kit. (See "What's On The Truck") Roof racks and roof rack attachment options or a ground rack system are site specific options that are not included with the base package. Additionally some additional items sourced from your local hardware store that your may need to purchase are: Conduit, appropriately sized electrical wire from the array, some fasteners, sealant, grounding rod, junction box at the edge of the array where you will make the transition to conduit, an AC combiner box if you have more than one string and a AC disconnect within 10' of the main panel which may be required in some local jurisdictions.

 

SolarEdge Product Warranty Program

SolarEdge includes a 25 year warranty for power optimizers and a standard 12 year warranty for inverters, extendable to 20 or 25 years. SolarEdge manages a rapid RMA (Return Material Authorization) process and guarantee a replacement unit shipped within 48 hours at no cost, given the reported defect is eligible for coverage under the Limited Product Warranty.

The warranty extension is available with a one-time payment fee and must be activated within 16 months of inverter shipment. SolarEdge commercial solar 273.7 kW QCells system technologies provides electronics to that act similar to micro inverters at a panel level but uses a central inverter to maximize energy harvesting. SolarEdge 273.7 kW Solar Kit is unique in that it uses a system in which each solar panel is connected to a power optimizer which guarantees maximum power to be drawn from each panel throughout the day then feeds the energy that it generates through a central inverter on the wall to the utility grid. The SolarEdge solution provides some unique benefits with their system, such as increased energy product per panel, improved safety for the DIY installer, and panel level performance monitoring. The power optimizers are designed to function continuously for over 25 years without maintenance in outdoor conditions with extremely low failure rates. The SolarEdge inverter is designed, and warranted, for 12 years of operation.

NOTE, IMPORTANT INSTALLATION: It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that all products are installed and operated in accordance with local and national building codes as specific by the NEC (National Electric Code), UBC (Uniform Building Code) or IBC (International Building Code) and local utility company policy. These codes may vary from city to city and county to county. All Grid-tied solar installations should be permitted and inspected, where required, by the local inspection authority in the same manner as other equivalent electrical systems. Blue Pacific Solar recommends you contract with a local licensed electrician to do the final electrical connection of your solar system from the AC disconnect to your home utility breaker box. Some local permitting authorities require that a licensed electrician do all the wiring from the rack to the utility interconnect for your SolarEdge 273.7 kW commercial solar system. Additional Safety Instructions; Perform all electrical installations in accordance with all applicable local electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70. Be aware that only qualified personnel should install or replace SolarEdge optimizer. Do not attempt to repair the SolarEdge optimizer; it contains no user-serviceable parts. If it fails, please contact SolarEdge customer service to obtain an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number and start the replacement process. Tampering with or opening the optimizer will void the warranty. Before installing or using the optimizer or inverter, please read all instructions and cautionary markings in the technical description and on the solar equipment. Connect the SolarEdge kit to the utility grid only after receiving prior approval from the electrical utility company. Be aware that the body of the optimizer is the heat sink. Under normal operating conditions, the temperature is 15°C above ambient, but under extreme conditions the optimizer can reach a temperature of 80°C. To reduce risk of burns, use caution when working with optimizer. Do NOT disconnect the solar module from the SolarEdge optimizer without first removing AC power.
